Honours Day 

In a powerful celebration of academic excellence, leadership, and promise, the Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Eta Psi Omega Chapter proudly recognized 45 outstanding young women during the chapter’s 48th Annual Honours Day Scholarship Programme, held under the theme “Future in Bloom.”

Representing schools and islands throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, these exceptional young women participated in a transformative week of activities designed to prepare them for the next phase of their academic journeys while equipping them with the confidence, skills, and exposure necessary to become the nation’s future leaders.

​

Throughout the week, honourees engaged in a carefully curated series of educational, civic, and leadership experiences. Activities included a Leadership Summit and College Experience Workshop, Speech Competition Finals, a Social and Service Mixer, and national engagement opportunities through visits to the House of Assembly Government House, and the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas.

 

These experiences were intentionally designed to broaden perspectives, foster civic awareness, strengthen leadership capacity, and inspire participants to embrace lives of service and achievement.

The chapter was privileged to welcome distinguished local and international guests who shared their experiences and expertise with the honourees, including International Second Vice President Quianna E.E. Christian of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, whose message encouraged participants to lead boldly, pursue excellence, and embrace opportunities for growth and impact.

The week culminated with the 48th Annual Honours Day Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the University of The Bahamas Performing Arts Centre, where the accomplishments of the young women were celebrated before family members, educators, sponsors, and community leaders.

​

Collectively, the 45 honourees received more than one-half million dollars in scholarship offers from local and international institutions, in addition to book grants, awards, and prizes recognizing excellence in academics, leadership, service, innovation, entrepreneurship, athletics, and the arts.

Among the distinguished honourees were several young women whose achievements exemplified the spirit and purpose of the programme. Participants earned recognition for academic distinction, leadership excellence, innovation in STEM, entrepreneurship, community service, athletics, and artistic expression, reflecting the diverse talents and aspirations of Bahamian young women.

For nearly five decades, the Honours Day Scholarship Programme has stood as one of Eta Psi Omega Chapter’s signature initiatives, impacting generations of young women through meaningful investments in education and leadership development. Chapter President Mrs. Ramona Wells emphasized the enduring impact of the programme, noting that the chapter remains committed to ensuring that every participant leaves with more than recognition. “This programme ensures that every young woman leaves with opportunity, support, and a renewed sense of purpose. We are not merely celebrating achievement; we are investing in the future of The Bahamas and empowering the next generation of leaders to dream bigger, serve boldly, and lead with excellence.”

As the 45 honourees return to their schools and communities, they carry with them not only awards and scholarship opportunities, but also the confidence, exposure, mentorship, and inspiration to pursue their ambitions and create meaningful change.
